Chicago is a beautiful city, full of life.

My photograph of the young ring-billed gull in front of the civic opera was third in the birdpix/bird protection foundation CITY BIRD CONTEST in the Netherlands in 2009.

Chicago is a beautiful city, full of life.

My photograph of the young ring-billed gull in front of the civic opera was third in the birdpix/bird protection foundation CITY BIRD CONTEST in the Netherlands in 2009.

The architecture is stunning and the people are very spontanious. It is a city with many differences. You will see the wealth as well as the poverty. The icon of the city is the El, old trams on a tramway built on pillars to and through the city. People are transported from the suburbs to the city and also within the city centre (the loop) the El brings you everywhere. Squirrels use the electricity cables in the air to transport themselves. Musea, beautiful sky high buildings as the Sears Tower, the silverdome reflecting the city. The stairway and the Tiffany dome of the Cultural Center. The parks and the theatres. The policewoman stopping you by saying: "hold on sugar". In spring the tulips all over the city.

The city at the lake with gulls and other waterbirds, bringing change and life. One of the days I visited Chicago there were protests in front of a big bank in the city. People were protesting against investments in Sudan, because of the war in Darfur.


Many artists as Picasso and Chagall left their sculptures in the city centre. In Oak Park you will find a concentration of buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Chicago is worth visiting.
